Particularly strong concentrations of Busoshoku in a body part will cause the edges of the coating to take the shape of flames. Luffy, Big Mom, and Katakuri have been shown with flame-shaped Hardening; the necessary process to attain this is currently unknown. Notably, while this shape has only been shown appearing for Luffy and Katakuri when they are performing their strongest attacks, Big Mom generated a flame-shaped coating while casually blocking an attack from Luffy.[8][9][10]

Goku is pure of heart, possessing no negative feelings or thoughts. He is highly loyal to his friends and family and is extremely protective of them as a result. He loves them very much that he is willing to sacrifice himself to save others as he did against Raditz and Cell. He strongly believes in repaying debts, as he gave the then-evil Vegeta a Senzu Bean for technically saving Gohan and Krillin from the Ginyu Force. He is a man of his word, committed to keeping his promise no matter what; 2 prime examples being the resurrection of Bora and giving the Omni-King a friend even more fun than himself. He has a very practical and carefree view of life, and his goals are very simple; he only seeks new adventures and challenges like testing his limits as a warrior. He has no interest in luxury or high-ranking positions, as he rejected Kami's offer to become Guardian of Earth and, likewise, Whis' offer to become the next Universe 7th's God of Destruction, though the latter was mainly due to his morality making him unsuitable for it. At the same time, he shows such unwavering will and tenacity to succeed, always determined to never give up against any adversity.[36]
He enjoys meeting new people and learning about/from them. Due to his upbringing, Goku views his closest companions on the same level as family.[38] He is rarely seen romantic or intimate with Chi-Chi and mainly married her because he promised, although once learning marriage means living with someone forever, openly liked the idea with Chi-Chi. He has openly stated that he loves Chi-Chi, and even cited her feistiness and passion as traits endearing to him. He will often leave his family for long periods, and though normally for noble reasons, such as maintaining his strength for their safety and the protection of the world, Goku does not realize its negative effect on his family and friends. Despite this, he consistently expresses his appreciation for his family, as after completing his training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to face Cell, he chose to spend the remaining time with his family rather than training more. Goku desires for his children to follow in his footsteps as a fighter, but he is generally accepting of their choices in lifestyle so long as they are happy and healthy. Overall, his love for his family has been a constant boost to his performance in battle. Also, Goku was very happy to learn he was going to be a grandfather, to which he later enjoyed taking care of his baby granddaughter Pan and grew very concerned when she disappeared. Against Goku Black, when learning that the rogue god murdered his family in spite of their initial encounter, despite it only happening in the original timeline, Goku's righteous rage let him pummel Black and Future Zamasu simultaneously.
Two days later, the gang ends up at Fire Mountain, where Goku ends up fighting the Ox-King after he attempts to kill Bulma and Oolong.[47] After Goku summons the Flying Nimbus, the Ox-King stops fighting and tells Goku that the man who gave Goku that cloud is the same master that taught him. In an effort to douse the fire surrounding the Ox-King's castle at the top of the mountain, Goku is sent to retrieve the Bansho Fan from Master Roshi after picking up the Ox-King's daughter, Chi-Chi. When they arrive at Master Roshi's Island, he tells them that he accidentally threw the fan out and decides to come there himself and put out the flames. When they get back to Fire Mountain, Master Roshi uses a technique called the Kamehameha to put out the flames, unfortunately destroying the mountain as well.[48] Much to Master Roshi's surprise, Goku immediately imitates the wave and makes one big enough to destroy their car. While Bulma and Oolong find the Dragon Ball in the rubble, Master Roshi asks that Goku trains with him after finishing his quest for the Dragon Balls.
Seeing no other choice, Goku drops back to his base form and gathers energy to create Universe 7's Spirit Bomb, all of Universe 7 contributing except for Vegeta, who declines out of pride (though he does protect Goku when Ribrianne tries to blindside him). Jiren takes the Spirit Bomb head on and pushes it back. The two struggle to control the massive concentration of ki, with Goku again utilizing X20 Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken. Ultimately, Goku's power gives out and he collapses, falling into his imploding Spirit Bomb. Initially believed to be dead, the remaining fighters prepare to collapse on Jiren. However, Goku emerges from the crater, having undergone a new transformation due to the power of the Spirit Bomb combining with his own innate energy to resist it. Unlocking his deepest potential, he has reached a state referred to by the gods as "Ultra Instinct".
Goku then begins to build up a newfound level of strength but tries to calm himself down. Understanding that he isn't fighting alone and that Merus's sacrifice was for the universe as a whole, Goku accepts his position as a current member of the Galactic Patrol, acknowledging that it is now his job to protect the universe. Goku re-enters into the perfected Ultra Instinct state for the first time since the Tournament of Power and quickly establishes his superiority over Moro, blocking and dodging all of his attacks with ease before landing a mighty blow on Moro that shakes the entire planet.
When Monaito questioned Goku if there was any relation because of their resemblance, Goku was unsure because he was raised by Gohan on Earth. However, Vegeta soon reveals that Bardock was Goku's father, to the latter's shock. Goku soon remarks he wish he knew more about his father while Vegeta comments that the kindness really is genetic in Goku's family. Shortly afterwards, Gas emerges, having now become the strongest in the universe thanks to Elec's summoning the dragon and making the wish. Both Goku and Vegeta were shocked to hear that Cereal had Dragon balls and that is where Granolah got his strength.
When the dragon, Shenron, is summoned to revive those killed by Super 17, the Dragon Balls crack and a different, cigar-smoking dragon appears in his place. This Black Smoke Shenron promptly splits into seven Shadow Dragons, each with a cracked Dragon Ball in its body. Goku and his companions fight valiantly to defeat these new dragons.
The people of Earth witness this and finally realize Goku is a hero. Afterward, the real Shenron appears once again, saying that no more wishes will be granted for a long time. After convincing Shenron to grant one last wish and asking that all the people who were killed by Super 17 and the Shadow Dragons be revived, Goku decides to accompany the dragon. Before leaving, Goku tells Vegeta that the lives of everyone are now in his hands, passing the role of protector of the Earth and anyone in need of help, to Vegeta. Goku also visits Krillin, who has recently been revived by the last wish, and the two of them have one last fight before Goku flies off with Shenron. He then visits Hell to apologize to Piccolo for "putting him through nothing but trouble", vowing to remember him for as long as lives. With all loose ends tied up, Goku disappears along with Shenron.
One of the colosseum staff was about to disqualify Luffy. Luckily, the Chinjao Family stepped in and spoke on Luffy's behalf, saying that Spartan was the one who started the fight. After thanking the Chinjao Family for saving him from disqualification, Luffy learned that he has been assigned to Block C. Once he went to the battle preparation room, Luffy got very excited seeing all the armor and decided to put some on to make himself look cooler. While learning about the colosseum's weight restriction on protective gear, Luffy was greeted by Cavendish, captain of the Beautiful Pirates.[8]
Meanwhile, Bellamy is fighting Bartolomeo and losing, wondering if Bartolomeo ate a Devil Fruit. Luffy shouts encouragement to him upon seeing this. The rest of the remaining warriors start to surround Elizabello, with Blue Gilly mocking him. However, the king states the formation was to protect them. As the crowd wonders about Elizabello's power, they realize they might be in danger. They begin to get clear and Elizabello goes on the attack while the other warriors rush him. Bellamy manages to get hold of Bartolomeo with his powers and is about to retaliate when he notices Elizabello's power. Elizabello lets loose his King Punch, sending virtually all the remaining combatants flying out of the ring. When the dust settles, nearly everyone, including Bellamy and Blue Gilly, are knocked out of the ring.[19]
For the moment it seems the king has won. However, one fighter still stands: Bartolomeo. He reveals he made a barrier which protected him from the king's attack having eaten the Bari Bari no Mi. He uses the barrier to knock out the vulnerable king, winning him the B-Block. As the crowds boos him, Bartolomeo states the Mera Mera no Mi must go to "that person". Luffy starts to wonder who he is.[19]
As she does so she reminisces about her past. When she was little, she and her mother, Scarlett, lived alone in a cottage not far from the kingdom. But after two days, Scarlett realized they needed food and headed back into the kingdom to retrieve some. However, it was the toy soldier who had returned to Rebecca carrying her mother's body, stating he could not protect her, as Scarlett was honoring her last request to bring food to Rebecca.
